Diesel users 'pay more for fuel than rest of Europe'

12 October, 09
Diesel users in the UK are paying more for their fuel than anywhere else in Europe, new research has found.

The study, carried out by price comparison website uSwitch, discovered that drivers and fleet owners in the UK are paying an average of £1.13 a litre for their fuel, although diesel fuelcard holders pay less than this amount.

It means that British motorists are spending one-fifth (20 per cent) more at the pumps than the average amount being paid on the continent.

The uSwitch study into prices across Europe was part of its Quality of Life Index.

After taking into account a number of factors, such as average income, life expectancy and cost of living, the researchers behind the project announced that the UK is officially the worst place to live in Europe, closely followed by Ireland.

Of the ten major countries surveyed, France and Spain were named the best places to live.

John Kilduff, energy analyst at MF Global told CNN recently that increases in the cost of oil, fuelled by the weakness of the US dollar, could see diesel prices increase even more.ADNFCR-2675-ID-19404710-ADNFCR
