08 February, 10 Diesel fuel card motorists in the UK are getting a worse deal than their counterparts in Europe, it has been claimed. It is more expensive for consumers in the UK to purchase diesel than it is for those on the continent, which is partly down to the tax on the fuel, pointed out Andrew English in a column for the Telegraph. "The UK Treasury has treated diesel and petrol fairly equally, so diesel does not yield the same big savings and fast paybacks as it does on the continent," he explained. It means that diesel now controls 41.5 per cent of the overall motoring market, compared to 43.3 per cent in 2008. Data released last week by the Office for National Statistics spelled more bad news for motorists, including those with diesel fuel cards, with the price of the fuel holding steady at 113.7p per litre. The price of diesel has either risen or remained the same each week in 2010. Posted by Tammy Brooks
