09 February, 10 Esso account card users may be interested to learn that the fuel firm's parent company may still be allowed to purchase a stake in Ghana's Jubilee oil field. According to the Wall Street Journal, the west African country's energy minister Joe Oteng-Adjei sent a letter to US-based ExxonMobil, stating that the oil giant would not win government approval for the deal to buy assets from current owner Kosmos. Only the state-run Ghana National Petroleum Corp (GNPC) would be allowed to purchase the stake, the letter was reported to have said. But Mr Oteng-Adjei has since rejected the claim, stating outright that Exxon's proposed deal had not been blocked. Instead, the Ghanaian government is waiting for Kosmos and GNPC to resolve their differences over the sale, reports Bloomberg. Following the successful resolution of these issues, foreign partners such as Exxon will be free to partner with GNPC on the giant Jubilee field, the energy minister added.
