16 February, 10 More and more motorists may be set to tackle the ever-increasing cost of living in the UK by purchasing diesel fuel cards. Data released on February 16th 2010 by the Office for National Statistics revealed that the consumer prices index (CPI) rose by 3.5 per cent over the 12 months leading up to January, up from 2.9 per cent in December. While the CPI actually fell by 0.2 per cent between the two months, this is still the strongest ever growth over the period as prices typically fall at a faster rate after Christmas and the New Year. The highest upward pressure on the CPI came from the transport sector, with fuel costs surging by 2.2 per cent between January and December - another record high. In comparison, motorists with diesel fuel cards may recall that costs fell by 3.4 per cent over the same period a year ago. This hike in costs has left drivers facing average UK diesel pump prices of 113.68p per litre. Posted by Tammy Brooks ![]() |
