Oil prices are too high, says Gordon Brown

16 February, 10
Gordon Brown has highlighted motorists' need for diesel discount by calling for global oil prices to be produced.

In a call-in interview session with BBC Radio Suffolk, the prime minister expressed his determination to prevent the current price of the hydrocarbon from spiralling out of control.

While undertaking a trip to Saudi Arabia recently, Mr Brown revealed that he had said the production of oil should not be restricted.

He was quoted by Dow Jones Newswires as saying: "I certainly believe the price of oil is too high at the moment and I would like to see us working together to keep the oil price down."

And the prime minister went on to assure diesel fuel card customers that he is keen to keep prices down "as much as possible".

Data released by the Office for National Statistics on February 16th 2010 attributed the rising cost of living in the UK to a hike in fuel prices, which are influenced by the global value of oil.
