An agreement with unions in France is expected today to bring an end to the strike at the Total refinery.
Speaking on French radio station RTL, French industry minister Christian Estrosi said that following talks between Total management and workers he believed "that all the conditions have now been met" for the strike to end, reports the Associated Press.
The minister said he was "satisfied" with the call by Confederation Generale du Travail, the main union involved, to end the strikes.
Christian Coste, a representative of the union, told Bloomberg that the workers had voted to end the strike. He said that the refinery units would start "very quickly" and fuel shipments would resume.
Apart from Flanders, no French plants will be sold or shut in the next five years, Total assured workers in a statement yesterday.
Total has told employees at the Flanders plant previously that they will retain jobs within the company.
