BP fuel card news: BP tops Greenopia's list

11 March, 10
BP has come top in a list of the most environmentally friendly oil companies, with Shell and ExxonMobil ranked fourth and fifth.

Greenopia has updated its list of oil companies, rated according to how efficient and environmental they were.

BP ranks top for its investment of oil profits into research for alternative fuel. The company also scored points for the accuracy, transparency and breadth of reporting of its environmental impact.

Doug Mazeffa, director of research at Greenopia, acknowledged that oil companies were not known for being good for the environment, but said "until alternative fuel coalesces into large-scale market availability, cars are a vast and current fact of life and they are powered by refined crude oil".

Therefore, he said, consumers wanted to know which oil provider was the best for the environment.

BP was also ranked top of the list for environmentally friendly oil companies in the Tomorrow's Value ranking, published earlier in the week.
