16 July, 10 Opec, the Middle Eastern cartel of oil-producing nations, has predicted that demand for the commodity will rise next year, in news which could have a knock-on effect for struggling British motorists. In its latest monthly oil market report, the organisation forecast consistent growth in the consumption of its fuel products next year, driven by further rapid expansion in emerging Asian markets and an upturn in US economic confidence. "The global economic recovery, which is expected to start during the second half of 2010, is projected to continue through the whole of 2011," the document noted. "US gasoline demand is expected to be back in its normal growing mode." According to Opec, global demand for oil will increase by around one million barrels per day in 2011, bringing total worldwide usage to 86.4 million. Earlier this week, the International Energy Agency suggested that buoyant financial outlooks in the Asia-Pacific region will drive growth in oil demand next year.
