22 July, 10 Diesel fuel cards may be in demand among commercial motorists after the AA revealed prices have increased by 15.8 pence per litre (ppl) in the last 12 months. The cost of diesel now stands at an average 119.9 ppl, compared with 104.1 ppl in July 2009. As with last year, the UK has the second highest diesel prices in Europe. While July 2009's figures showed that London had the highest prices when it came to filling up, its position at the top has now been supplanted by Northern Ireland. Diesel fuel cards may still be sought in the capital, as prices there remain above the national average at 120.6 ppl, which is also the same level as the rest of the south-east region of England. At the moment, the cheapest place to purchase diesel is Yorkshire and Humberside, with the average retail price of the commodity in the region standing at 118.8 ppl.
