09 August, 10 Struggling British drivers have been warned to expect further hardship over the coming weeks, after a new study predicted fuel prices will rise above £1.20 per litre by the August bank holiday weekend. According to the Daily Telegraph, research carried out by fuel retailers' body RMI Petrol revealed that recent increases in crude oil prices could push costs up at UK forecourts, with motorists expected to pay 121p by the end of this month. "The rebound in crude oil pricing is disappointing but not entirely unexpected," said the organisation's chairman Brian Madderson. "It will further increase pressure on independent retailers who are fighting for survival, especially in rural areas." His sentiments were echoed by AA spokesman Luke Bosdet, who described the potential price hike as a "body blow" for drivers. Fuel costs could increase even further in the next few months, with duty scheduled to rise by 1p per litre in October and VAT climbing to 20 per cent from January.
