02 September, 10 British drivers have been advised by a car hire firm to take a series of measures to help reduce the impact of rocketing fuel prices, amid fears that petrol and diesel costs could be set for a further spike in the coming months. Carrentals.co.uk recommended that motorists should cut their speed to use less fuel and plan journeys in advance to lessen the likelihood of taking wrong turns, as well as ensure that windows are shut and roof racks removed to reduce wind resistance. "Fuel prices peaked in May and look set to reach the same extortionate levels again," said representative Gareth Robinson. "These prices can be counteracted slightly if drivers take a little bit of time to change their driving habits." The firm also claimed checking tyre pressures regularly and leaving unnecessary items at home can boost fuel economies. According to Petrolprices.com, diesel currently costs on average 117.8p per litre at UK forecourts. Find out more about the Diesel Direct fuel card and start saving now.
