According to figures from the AA, the average cost of a litre of unleaded petrol has risen from 81.7p per litre ten years ago to 116.5p today. Earlier this year, a petition organised by residents in Scotland's Western Isles urging the government to cut fuel duty attracted more than 2,500 signatures.
