Fuel card news: New eco-trailer tested by Eddie Stobart

26 January, 12
Logistics provider Eddie Stobart has become the first company in the UK to carry out deliveries using a new, more environmentally-friendly trailer.

The company has completed its first deliveries using the new larger trailers after receiving a Vehicle Special Order from the Department for Transport (DfT) earlier this month.

It utilised a 15.65 m trailer with two steering rear axles to deliver groceries to supermarket retailer Tesco, with the vehicle exceeding the present maximum length of trailers set by the DfT of 13 m.

William Stobart, Stobart Group chief operating officer, said: "We have worked in partnership with the DfT to help introduce these new trailers and the industry as a whole is set to benefit from the opportunities and environmental advantages they bring."

It follows a recent announcement by the company that it was keen to become one of the first firms to make use of the new extended trailer allowances, with the DfT providing licences for 1,800 such vehicles in the UK.
