“Profiteering” questioned by The Fuelcard People - June,09

The Fuelcard People has questioned current forecourt prices for petrol and diesel. Steve Clarke, general manager, said, “At the same time that one service station in Holland Park, London is selling unleaded petrol for £1.39 per litre, others within two miles have it available for below £1.00 per litre. ‘Profiteering’ is a dirty word, but it is hard not to be suspicious. A disparity like this has to raise questions.”

The Last Post sounds for overpriced fuel and cost uncertainty - February,09

by Steve Clarke, general manager, The Fuelcard People

One thing that all SAIF members have in common is the need to keep an eye on costs. While focus must be on service quality, a member has a commercial business to run. Anything affecting the bottom line must be monitored, controlled and minimised.

Time spent on shopping around for value, unfortunately, can wipe out any savings. Fuel for hearses and other vehicles is the obvious example. The nearest forecourt might not be the cheapest locally, but it is rarely worth hunting around for a better deal — which may not even exist. In an ideal world, you would always know where to find the cheapest fuel. Even better, you would be able to buy at a discount. Best of all would be to refuel cheaply but delay payment, enjoying interest-free credit.
