ADBLUE - TOTALCARD - The Total Fuel Card

What is AdBlue?

Since January 1, 2005, new HGVs sold in Europe have been required to comply with the Euro 4 emissions standard which halves the emissions limit permitted under Euro 3. A drastic reduction in Nitrogen oxide (NOx) and soot particles in lorry and bus exhaust fumes.

In order to meet the environmental requirements of the Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards (Euro 5 is a stricter standard which is being introduced in 2009) on polluting HGV emissions, the vast majority of manufacturers have chosen SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology to reduce their nitrogen oxide emissions. This involves incorporating the urea into an aqueous solution called Adblue.

There are many advantages of SCR technology: around 85% of nitrogen oxide is converted into water vapour and harmless oxides thanks to the use of Adblue in the vehicle's exhaust system. This is a weighty argument at a time of high fuel prices and provides an additional asset when it comes to protecting the environment as it reduces CO2 emissions.

The Advantages of Adblue:

  • A secure investment in order to meet future anti-pollution standards.
  • SCR works throughout Europe with varying qualities of diesel fuel.
  • Designed to last as long as your vehicle, SCR doesn't require any maintenance.
  • No impact on frequency of maintenance and oil changes.
  • Reduces fuel consumption: a lorry using SCR technology burns between 2% and 5% less fuel than a similar model without SCR technology.

How is Adblue sold across the TOTALcard network?

Adblue pump facilities have been installed on the HGV islands at a number of TOTAL service stations.

AdBlue can also be purchased in 10 litre cans at 20 at selected TOTAL service stations At the moment, Adblue is available in cans in selected TOTAL sites.

This easy to use format means Adblue is always available and you can add just the right amount when needed. Only 4 litres of Adblue needed per 100 litres of diesel fuel.

As for the fuel, you can pay for Adblue with your TOTALCARD and Eurotrafic card provided they have the Diesel and Lubricants option.
