Safe Loading

  • Ensure you know the gross vehicle weight of your van
  • Be aware of the weight of the payload. If it is close to the maximum load allowed, be wary of carrying extra equipment/accessories
  • Ensure the driver knows the load weight
  • Be aware of the height of the load
  • Ensure the load is distributed evenly across the floor of the van
  • Secure the load properly
  • Be aware of what the load contains
  • Check that the consignment note is correct
  • Observe special handling requirements
  • Pick a safe place to park to load and unload
  • Take extra care at night
  • Know your destination's facilities for loading and unloading
  • Undertake a destination risk assessment if necessary
