Buying the right car can be fraught with difficulty, but the whole process can be made a lot easier if you’re willing to ask the right questions.

As a result, automotive shopping site CarGurus wants us all to know that, really, there can never be a stupid question when it comes to finding the right vehicle to meet your needs.

Ask the right questions and get rewarded

Chris Knapman, editor of CarGurus, said: “When searching for and purchasing a car, it’s important to know it’ll meet your requirements – however unusual they might be.”

That said, Mr Knapman was quick to point out some of the strangest questions the company has received to date:

  • Will a coffin fit in the back of a Ford Mondeo?
  • Can you deliver it to Australia?
  • Can you fill it with balloons and put a bow on it?
  • Can I check the chassis number to see if it’s lucky?
  • Can I take the car home to see if my dog likes it?

We all want the affirmation that our beloved pooch is happy with our choice of motor, don’t we? That said, it probably shouldn’t be top on your list of priorities when deciding which new model to buy.

In the end though, probing dealers or sellers should be seen as an important part of the car buying process. Asking questions around price, payment terms, extras or other features should be viewed as important topics to discuss, but there’s always time for those off-the-wall queries if it’s something that really matters to you.

Heather Stark, brand manager at The Fuelcard People, comments: “It might sound silly, but what this research shows is that getting the right car for you is a serious business, so if you have an issue or a specific question that you need to be answered, just go ahead and ask it.”
