Ford has announced it will use its exhibition space at the imminent Frankfurt Motor Show to parade a batch of new models.

Spearheading the refresh exercise is the revised Mustang, with its sleeker styling and increased power output.

Behind it will be the all new EcoSport compact SUV, which is said to be more capable and comfortable than the original model.

Some 150,000 EcoSports have been sold in Europe since it was launched in 2013 and sales were up by 40 per cent in 2016 compared to the year before.

A spokesman for Ford said the second-gen EcoSport would “offer customers even more style, comfort, capability and choice, blending rugged SUV functionality with city car practicality”.

Drivers will feel more comfortable and self-assured behind the wheel of the EcoSport, added Gary Boes, Ford’s global B-car vehicle line director.

“We’ve enhanced the quality, technology and versatility of the EcoSport to deliver more of the confidence and control that compact SUV customers want,” he commented.

Other Fords making their European debut will be the new eight/nine-seater Tourneo Custom, now more versatile and premium than before, and a limited production Black Edition Ranger pick-up, of which only 2,500 will be produced.

The Ford Ranger is Europe’s best-selling pickup with 23,100 units shifted in the first eight months of 2017; that’s a 12.1 per cent rise over the same period in 2016.

The new Fiesta isn’t really ‘motor show new’ anymore, but such is its universally accepted brilliance that Ford will be bringing along every variation on the mega-selling supermini regardless, including the Fiesta Active crossover and performance-honed ST.

Ben Robb, brand manager at The Fuelcard People, adds: “The Frankfurt Motor Show is the arguably the final significant date in the automotive calendar and every car maker is wants to make one last splash before the industry winds down for the rest of the year. Ford’s lineup is definitely one of the most solid we’ve seen.”
