DieselCar and EcoCar Magazine has announced the winners of its Used Car Top 50 2020 awards, and it’s good news for Peugeot, with the manufacturer’s 3008 model being named the used car of the year, as well as the best used medium SUV.
Ian Robertson, editor of the magazine, said Peugeot’s designers “tore up the rulebook” when they created the 3008.
The 3008, which has been in production since 2016, won praise from the judges for its exterior and interior styling, as well as its engine efficiency and the i-Cockpit interior, which was recognised for its safety features and high-end technology.
Mr Robertson noted that the SUV also has a “practical 591-litre boot” and is “great to drive”.
This wasn’t the only success that Peugeot enjoyed in the Used Car Top 50 2020 awards, with the RCZ – which was in production between 2010 and 2015 – being named the best used sports car.
Particular praise was reserved for the RCZ’s ‘double-bubble’ roof and stylish appearance, as well as its handling, balance and the performance delivered by its 1.6-litre and two-litre engines.
The Peugeot model has now topped the sports car category of the DieselCar and EcoCar Magazine awards for the past three years.
David Peel, managing director of Peugeot UK, said: “It’s fantastic to see two of our models top the DieselCar and EcoCar Used Car Top 50 2020 awards. The RCZ, thanks to its unique design and driving dynamics, has already gained a cult following and is surely set to be a future classic.
“The 3008 SUV winning the Used Car of the Year award shows how well-engineered the family SUV is, as it continues to impress UK drivers year after year with its combination of style, performance and efficiency.”
Many other manufacturers and models were recognised in the DieselCar and EcoCar Magazine awards.
The overall list of the top ten used cars for this year was as follows:
- Peugeot 3008
- Skoda Superb
- SEAT Ateca
- Kia Sportage
- Mazda 6
- Citroen C4 SpaceTourer
- Hyundai Tucson
- Ford Fiesta
- Skoda Octavia
- SEAT Leon
Several models within this list won additional awards, with the Skoda Superb named the best used large car and also the leading used estate car.
The C4 SpaceTourer, Fiesta and Octavia topped the categories covering MPVs, small cars and medium-sized cars, respectively.
Korean manufacturer Kia was a fairly common feature in the results. As well as the Sportage ranking fourth overall, the cee’d made it into the top 20 and the Niro picked up the title of best used hybrid.
Paul Philpott, president and CEO of Kia Motors UK, said it was encouraging to begin the year with multiple models being recognised in the Used Car Top 50 2020 awards.
“It just goes to show that Kia produces high-quality cars that are consistently reliable whether new or used across the range,” he added.
Heather Stark, brand manager at The Fuelcard People, comments: “With the Peugeot 3008 topping this list of attractive used cars and the Kia Sportage, SEAT Ateca and Hyundai Tucson all in the top ten, it seems that SUVs are set to be as popular as ever in 2020.”
