Drivers up the down the country on the lookout for a new hot hatch might be tempted by the new Mazda3, which has been named Small Hatch of the Year.

The model picked up the title at the 2020 UK Car of the Year Awards.

A worthy winner in 2020

Beating a competitive line-up of contenders to this year’s award, the Mazda3 was praised for its excellent fuel economy and environmental credentials, as well as its stylish interior and exterior.

Car of the Year judge Alisdair Suttie commented: “On looks alone, the Mazda3 is a class apart from its peers, yet the appeal is much more than skin deep.

“Superb to drive, comfortable and made to exacting standards, the Mazda3 also comes with clever engine technology that makes it both fun and frugal.”

Following its victory, the Mazda3 has now been added to the nine-car shortlist to be named this year’s overall UK Car of the Year, which will be announced at the end of the month.

It also follows several other major titles for the model, including being named the 2020 China Car of the Year, 2019 Scottish Car of the Year, 2019 Thailand Car of the Year and 2019 Women’s World Car.

Heather Stark, brand manager at The Fuelcard People, comments: “This is a stunning and well-deserved victory for the Mazda3. As the judges alluded to, the model is a fantastic example of what a hatch should be: nippy, fun and above all, superb to drive.”
