Volvo has won a prestigious accolade for its XC40 model. The vehicle was named‘s Car of the Year for 2019.

The model also picked up the title of Best Premium Crossover.

A clear winner with Honest John’s readers

Honest John editor David Ross commented: “We were mightily impressed with the XC40 when it was first launched, but even we couldn’t predict just how popular it would be, ultimately being crowned the Honest John Car of the Year for 2019.

“Well built, stylish and refreshingly different from the usual crossovers, the XC40 is a car we have found ourselves repeatedly recommending to readers over the past 12 months.”

He added that no other model came close to matching the popularity of the XC40 with the magazine’s readers.

The Honest John Awards differ from many other major awards, as the magazine’s readership ultimately decide the winners in each category.

This year’s awards took place at a gala ceremony at the Vinyl Factory in Soho, London. Other winners on the night included the Mazda 3 (Best Family Car), Kia Sportage (Best Crossover) and Porsche Panamera (Best Luxury Car).

Heather Stark, brand manager at The Fuelcard People, comments: “Volvo’s XC40 is a deserving winner of this prestigious award. Drivers up and down the country respect the views of Honest John and this vote of confidence will ensure the model continues to sell well.”
