The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has highlighted the considerable efforts and huge fleets of logistics providers that are necessary to keep London stocked with goods and open for business day after day.

With the London Mayoral elections looming on May 5th, the body published its own Freight Manifesto for the London elections, and in it has highlighted the massive impact that logistics operations have on the smooth running of all businesses and communities across the English capital.

Overall, the FTA revealed how it takes 400 vans to deliver all the toilet roll used by Londoners every day, while 23 articulated lorries are needed simply to deliver the city's baked beans.

Just two of numerous examples of the significant vehicle requirements to keep the capital working seamlessly, the FTA wishes to ensure all candidates in the coming elections are focused on the top priorities of the city.

FTA director of policy Karen Dee said: "Reforming night-time delivery restrictions in London would have a huge impact, not only on the volume of HGVs on the roads at busy times but also on air quality and safety."

She added that the organisation remains keen to speak to all candidates in the coming race for the position of Mayor of London, with the aim of ensuring the future of logistics in the English capital is a top priority for all.
