Albert Einstein commented that time is an illusion. Groucho Marx suggested that time flies like a winged arrow, but fruit flies like a banana. Those are the only two celebrity quotations being offered on this theme, because there is no time to search for any more. Time is a fascinating resource. It costs nothing and more of it is constantly arriving, which is fortunate because everything we do consumes it. According to Parkinson’s Law, work expands to fill the time available.

Anyone with a fleet to manage will recognise the truth in that thought. If one task is finished ahead of schedule, there is always another one ready to account for the unused time. In fact, you probably do not have time for this and are only reading it in the hope that it will either raise a smile or be useful. If so, you are in luck. It may not be particularly humorous, but it should help to lighten the fleet load.
