The Fuelcard People, part of Fuel Card Group (FCG), has gained ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management Systems certification, making it the first company in the fuel-card sector to achieve this standard.
The Fuelcard People is using its ISO 50001-certfied energy management system to:
- constantly monitor, review and reduce its energy costs and CO2 emissions
- set it apart from its competitors
- encourage staff participation in energy saving initiatives and events
- establish action plans and targets to improve energy performance
- take a lead and complement its new fleet management services, CO2Count and MileageCount
- adapt to the requirements of environmental legislation such as the EU’s 20-20-20 targets
- make energy saving central to all its activities, including in equipment purchasing, staff practices, and office planning and operations
Fuel Card Group chose SGS to undertake its ISO 50001 assessment. Ben Glover, FCG Management Systems Co-ordinator, says: “FCG has worked with SGS for a long time: we’ve held ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems certification since 1992, and from the start SGS has efficiently carried out all our assessments.
“To other organisations thinking about ISO 50001, go for it! It enables you to see and control your energy use, and it’s an effective way of cutting costs. You could be consuming large amounts of energy without even noticing, so it’s worth seeing exactly what you use.”
Currently holding ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 50001:2011, FCG plans to start preparing for ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management Systems certification later in 2013.
