The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has published a range of recommendations on winter preparation as part of its ongoing campaign of advice from advanced driving instructor Peter Rodger.
With winter just around the corner, the IAM is keen to ensure vehicle owners across the country are not caught out by freezing temperatures and unreliability over the coming months, so drivers are urged to carry out a number of checks on their car.
They should ensure engine coolant and antifreeze levels are topped up over the coming weeks, while darker mornings and evenings mean lights should be examined regularly to ensure they are all in good working order.
Furthermore, tyres should be examined to ensure they have at least 1.6 mm of tread depth and that they do not have any rips or tears that could lead to an increased risk of puncture.
"Bad weather can strike suddenly and more severely than you expect, so it's really important to be ready, rather than wait for the cold to arrive," Mr Rodger stated.
