Ford is this year celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Mondeo model, which has to date sold more than 4.5 million units across Europe – 1.4 million of which have been in the UK.

Introduced in 1993 following a five-year development programme, the vehicle went on to claim an array of awards, including being named Car of the Year in 1994.

Renowned for its excellent fuel efficiency and pioneering a range of the latest technologies – including airbags, traction control, intelligent protection, Adaptive Cruise Control and EcoBoost engines – the Mondeo came to epitomise an entire class of car owner in the UK.

Barb Samardzich, vice-president for product development at Ford of Europe, commented: "Across two decades, Mondeo has stood for great driving dynamics, surprising technologies, excellent safety and outstanding fuel efficiency."

In celebration of this milestone, actor Ray Winstone has worked with Ford to release a new video commemorating the popular vehicle.
