Local authorities up and down the UK have come under fire from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), which has called on councils to boost their levels of investment in improving the condition of roads in their area.
The blight of potholes on roads across the country is continuing to hinder journeys and cause damage to vehicles and the IAM states many people have now had enough.
Councils are being called upon to act in a swifter manner to carry out repairs when road surfaces deteriorate in this manner, and 12 months after the organisation's Pothole Review it appears some local authorities have taken note, but not all.
IAM chief executive Simon Best said: "The IAM recognise that it will take time to deliver the quality of roads we want, but the lack of long-term budgets in many councils is a real worry."
He added more money is now needed to ensure the repair of these hazards does not fall down the priority list for councils.
