The Highways Agency has been honoured by vehicle safety organisation TyreSafe over its efforts to promote awareness of the need for drivers to pay careful attention to their tyres.

Claiming the 'Outstanding Contribution' title at the inaugural TyreSafe Awards, which took place last week (November 20th) in London, the government department received praise from a range of sources for its hard work in promoting vehicle safety.

Stuart Jackson, chairman of TyreSafe, commented: "The Highways Agency is a thoroughly deserved winner … after such a fantastic couple of years supporting us, which has ensured that tyre safety is very firmly established … on the road safety agenda."

Overall, nine award winners were announced on the night, with the evening recognising those organisations and communities that have embraced the tyre safety message over the last 12 months.

Giti Tyre (UK) was named best tyre manufacturer, while the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership picked up the honour for champion of innovation.
