Vehicle manufacturer Ford has published new research highlighting the dangers posed by young drivers and is subsequently offering training to this group to help to reduce accident rates in the UK.
According to the company's research, one in five of all major crashes involve young novice drivers, with more than 1,500 young people either killed or seriously injured on the roads last year.
In response, Ford has now invested £1.2 million into the creation of the Ford Driving Skills for Life initiative – a scheme designed to help young motorists improve their awareness and become safer drivers.
Edmund King, AA president, commented: "Road safety is the most important life skill for young people as crashes remain a major cause of accidental death in this age group."
Furthermore, Ford earlier this month announced the creation of six new regional driver training centres across the country, in partnership with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the AA.
