More than one-third of motorists would have no problem going online to buy tyres for their cars.

Research by Delticom discovered 36 per cent are keen to use the web – up from 27 per cent in 2012 – as they seek to get the best possible deal.

Indeed, 14 per cent of drivers have already bought tyres using the internet this year and this figure climbs to over 40 per cent for those in the 18 to 24 age bracket.

Availability of stock (81 per cent) is having a big influence on the decision to go online, while having access to a large choice of tyres, brands and models (70 per cent) is also important.

Delticom's tyre expert Rainer Binder said it is good to see so many motorists going online in order to buy tyres.

"It is also very encouraging that young drivers in particular have realised the benefits of doing so, although drivers in all age groups are now shopping online for this essential purchase," he added.
