UK drivers who suffer from hay fever could be putting their safety at risk in the coming months.

Research by Opticrom Hayfever Eye Drop has discovered June is the worst month of the year for the condition, as 63 per cent of people are affected – while 22 per cent of drivers questioned said they have to deal with the symptoms until the end of September.

On top of this, 55 per cent of people have been distracted by blurred vision and watery eyes when behind the wheel, which means they have failed to give their full attention to the road and this could result in a serious accident.

Dr Jean Emberlin said that if motorists are worried about being affected by pollen they should wear sunglasses as this will help to keep the powder out of their eyes.

As eyes can involuntarily shut for a second during bouts of hay fever, drivers need to make sure they stay on top of this issue.
