Vehicle manufacturer Mazda has announced plans to accomplish growth of 20 per cent over the coming year, building on a base of 26,200 sales in 2012.

The company has stated the roll-out of its new sixth-generation SKYACTIV technology will pave the way for a considerable increase in demand for Mazda models over the coming months, while the company's plan to cut dealer numbers from 157 to 135 will help to provide greater profitability and further drive growth.

"While a 20 per cent growth might sound ambitious, it is all growth from our new generation cars. There's nothing in our forecast that worries me," commented Jeremy Thomson, managing director at Mazda UK.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen also revealed plans to improve its market position in the UK earlier this week, revealing a stabilisation in revenues at €46.6 billion (£39.2 billion) for the first quarter and forecasts for considerable growth for the remainder of the year.
