With the return of snow and ice to many parts of the UK today (March 22nd), the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued advice to drivers on tackling these tricky conditions.

According to IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger, the best methods for tackling these difficult surroundings is to reduce speeds accordingly and to ensure all mirrors and windows are clear from obstructions before setting off to ensure good visibility of potential hazards.

Stopping distances can also be considerably increased and this is something all motorists should take into account when facing snow and ice.

Mr Rodger added: "Avoid travelling unless completely necessary and don't ignore police warnings or advice to avoid specific routes. Can you work remotely, or change your schedule?"

Earlier this week, the IAM also advised individuals planning a getaway this Easter weekend to plan their journey in advance in order to reduce their likely levels of stress.

Roads will be busier than usual and therefore families should also remember to pack plenty of entertainment to keep kids busy and avoid them getting restless.
