The Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) has issued a response to the chancellor's Budget announcement earlier this week (March 20th).

According to ACFO chairman Julie Jenner, the turnaround on company car benefit-in-kind tax rates on ultra-low emission models is a positive development, while clarification on capital allowances is also relatively good news for the industry.

Moreover, scrapping of the planned 1.89p + VAT per litre increase in fuel duty that was due to be introduced in September should be viewed as a positive result for fleet operators.

However, Ms Jenner stated: "What the chancellor really needed to do to give business and consumers a real boost was to cut fuel duty, not simply cancel a planned future tax increase."

Meanwhile, AA president Edmund King also declared his pleasure at the cancellation of the duty increase, noting that had the rise gone ahead, this would have been the last straw for many motorists in terms of excessive costs of car ownership and operation.
