Environmental consultancy Ricardo-AEA has called on businesses across the UK to embrace the reporting of carbon emissions for their transport infrastructure.
Ricardo-AEA carbon management knowledge leader Christine St John Cox said that with the introduction of mandatory new reporting guidelines for FTSE 100 companies, it is best practice for businesses to get used to understanding the impact that their vehicles have on the environment.
She commented: "The good news for businesses is that monitoring and reporting in this way helps to identify opportunities to cut emissions."
Furthermore, as transport accounts for a significant proportion of operational costs for many organisations there is potential to make significant savings.
Earlier this month, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) issued advice to drivers across the UK regarding improving their ecological habits.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said simple tips including sticking to the speed limit and braking earlier can be excellent tools in improving fuel consumption, as well as turning off engines when idling in traffic.
