Road safety charity Brake has welcomed the Welsh Assembly Government's commitment to introducing more 20mph zones across Wales in a bid to reduce the number of serious accidents seen each year.
The assembly voted in favour of the motion to enforce lower speed limits in areas where members of the public are at increased risk, including in many built-up areas and in the vicinity of schools.
Julie Townsend, Brake deputy chief executive, said: "20mph limits can deliver huge benefits: preventing devastating casualties, enabling more active lifestyles, and making communities more liveable and people-friendly."
She added that 20mph should therefore become the norm in the UK's town, villages and cities.
Ms Townsend also recently highlighted Brake's new child safety initiative – the Giant Walking Bus – which aims to educate motorists on the risks posed by children out on foot.
It is a campaign designed to tackle the issue of the current five young people each day on average who are seriously injured or killed on the UK's roads.
