The Mazda CX-5 has been honoured by becoming one of a select few vehicles to be awarded What Car? best buy status.

Coming out on top in the publication's under £25,000 SUV category, the CX-5 was praised for its excellent emissions of just 119 g/km of CO2 and fuel economy of up to 61.4 mpg.

As a result, the model was described as an "unbeatable buy", as it is currently priced more than £2,500 under the £25,000 threshold.

According to a statement from the publication: "This really is one of the finest diesels you can buy. It has walloping low-down torque, yet is supremely flexible and happy to rev."

What Car? held its annual vehicle awards ceremony earlier this month, in which it highlighted the best vehicles across a host of categories. The BMW 3 Series was lucky enough to take top honours in the Best Executive Car section, while the Porsche Boxster was named Sports Car of the Year.
