Road safety charity Brake has called on the government to respond to the recent publication of an increase in the number of deaths seen across the UK on the country's roads.
It follows the publication of the data showing the first annual rise in road deaths in the UK in 17 years.
Julie Townsend, Brake deputy chief executive, said: "Successful road safety measures are a critical investment that can deliver a range benefits to society and the economy, yet in recent years we have seen dramatic cuts in road safety funding."
She added that as such, the government should give a greater priority to improving road safety.
The news follows the recent announcement that Brake will be working in association with the Association of Chief Police Officers and the Police Federation to promote best practice for local authorities in the support of those affected by accidents on the UK's roads.
