The recent Fleet World Honours event in London saw a number of vehicle manufacturers picking up annual awards for their models, but charity organisations also received support on the night.

Help for Heroes and Macmillian Cancer Support each benefited from donations of £1,000 at the event, with the organisers offering a special prize of £1,000 if a driver could beat the 100 mpg mark in last year's MPG Marathon.

Ross Durkin, managing editor of Fleet World, explained: "What I was not expecting was the generosity of Mercedes-Benz themselves who, in an act of great kindness offered to reciprocate our donation with a cheque for £1,000."

The Mercedes C-Class was also one of the big winners at this year's Fleet World Honours, with the vehicle picking up the title of best luxury car for 2012 – marking the fourth consecutive year in which it has topped this category and won the award.
