A five-star Euro NCAP rating has been bestowed on the new BMW 3-Series following rigorous testing from the vehicle safety organisation.

It delivered excellent results in all test areas, with the model receiving praise for its extensive range of safety equipment, including side and front airbags for the passenger and driver, as well as side head airbags to reduce the likelihood of neck injuries in the event of an accident.

The vehicle was found to be highly resistant to impact on side and head-on collisions.

Another area where the 3-Series excelled was in pedestrian protection, with the model benefiting from flexible structures and precisely-modelled bodywork to help prevent injury at low speeds.

Earlier this month, the Mazda Cx-5 also received the top safety award of five stars from Euro NCAP, with the vehicle performing extremely well in a number of areas.

It achieved scores of 94, 87 and 86 per cent for adult and child safety, and its safety assist systems respectively.
