Transport minister Norman Baker has announced the details of 30 new carbon-cutting local transport schemes across the UK.

Funding totalling £113 million has been allocated to the project, which will help 29 English local authorities carry out plans to boost growth in their area while also tackling the emissions of road users.

Mr Baker commented: "The schemes we are funding today will benefit communities from Devon to Durham by cutting carbon emissions, reducing congestion and stimulating economic growth in these areas."

Some of the schemes being launched under the initiative include the Travel Torbay Regeneration Project, the Walk to School Outreach programme in Durham and Smarter Travel Slough – which aims to reduce congestion on main roads in the borough.

Earlier this month, the government announced the launch of a £9.5 million green initiative to help the UK freight sector reduce its overall emissions through trials of low-carbon vehicles.
