Hyundai's award-winning new generation i30 model has been awarded a prestigious five-star Euro NCAP rating for safety.

The i30 was shown to be one of the safest vehicles in the C-segment, receiving a class-leading 90 per cent rating in the child occupant category and also maximum scores for 18-month and three-year testing.

Allan Rushforth, senior vice president and chief operations officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, commented: "The five-star rating for new generation i30 further demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest levels of safety for Hyundai customers."

He added that this latest development is another accolade to add to the i30's already impressive list of attributes.

Sales of Hyundai vehicles were extremely positive during the first quarter of 2012, with the i30, ix35 and ix20 models all performing strongly.

Overall, the vehicle manufacturer reported record European sales of 114,571 units – representing 12.5 per cent growth over the same period in 2011.
