The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has highlighted the danger to UK drivers from flash flooding following the downpour of rain many areas of the country have witnessed over the last week.
"When driving in wet conditions remember that stopping distances will increase and visibility will be reduced. Drop your speed and give yourself more time to slow down," commented IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger.
He added that a suddenly wet road surface significantly increases the chances of drivers losing control of their vehicle when braking or turning and as a result, motorists are advised to always drive on the highest section of a carriageway.
In addition, when travelling through deep water motorists should keep their foot on the accelerator at all times, as this prevents water from entering the exhaust.
The IAM also recently published advice to drivers regarding travelling on rural roads.
IAM head of training Simon Best noted motorists should cut their speed, as they never know what will be around the next bend.
