The Institute for Advanced Motorists (IAM) has welcomed the news that the government plans to maintain the need for annual MOT testing of all vehicles that are more than three years old on the UK's roads.
IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "The IAM welcomes today's (February 1st) announcement on MOT testing with its strong focus on improving customer service and experience of the MOT test."
However, he added that many motorists still feel they are being taken advantage of by unscrupulous garages when taking in their cars for an MOT, with 26 per cent of UK drivers believing they have paid for repairs under an MOT that were unnecessary at the time.
Last week, the IAM announced its latest advice as part of its Drive & Survive initiative, with the organisation telling motorists that parking in a safe manner should always be a top priority, as failing to do so can put the safety of pedestrians and other road users at risk.
