The Ford C-Max has picked up a title at this year's annual BusinessCar Awards on the back of significantly improved sales figures for the last 12 months.

The model bagged the compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) of the Year trophy, with more than 19,000 models sold in 2011 – seeing the brand double its sales output over the previous year.

Furthermore, the company saw the S-Max named MPV of the Year for the sixth successive time.

BusinessCar editor Paul Barker said: "Ford has deservedly taken both MPV awards thanks to a pair of products that successfully combine practicality and efficiency with a sense of style not previously available in a sector aimed squarely at family transport."

The news follows the announcement that BMW was one of the biggest winners at this year's awards ceremony, taking home six gongs in total, including the coveted Manufacturer of the Year title for the fourth year in a row.
