The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has urged all drivers to avoid drinking and driving this festive season.
According to the organisation, it is imperative all road users take their responsibilities seriously and do not drive while intoxicated.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger advises individuals who have a drink should not attempt to second-guess the amount of alcohol they have consumed in order to be just under the limit – they should always forego driving after any amount of alcohol.
Furthermore, anyone who has been drinking the night before should remember that alcohol can still be in their system the following morning and so they should make alternative transport arrangements rather than driving.
He concluded: "Driving is not a good mixer – it doesn't go well with spirits, beer or wine. Either drink or drive – you cannot do both. Be rigid – people will respect you for not mixing the two things."
