A new inquiry has been launched into the public’s attitudes towards the UK’s motoring agencies.
The House of Commons Transport Committee has launched a new inquiry to garner feedback on typical user experiences for their interactions with the government’s motoring organisations.
It will examine responses concerning the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) and the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) and is now set to run until February 24th.
The committee is hoping to develop a better understanding of how each of these departments deals with its commitments to serving the public and if improvements can be made in the future.
Questions being put to respondents as part of the inquiry will include whether each government organisation is felt to be delivering good value for money; if personal or sensitive data is handled appropriately; how problems are dealt with and if these processes are effective; whether services can be accessed when and where they are needed; as well as how the needs of service users are prioritised.
Specifically, the committee will be seeking information regarding the handling of driving licences, vehicle registration, licensing of public services, the administration of vehicle excise duty and Off the Road Notifications, driver testing and the authorisation of motor vehicles, systems and components.
Louise Ellman, chair of the House of Commons Transport Committee, commented: “There are a number of changes being made to the government’s motoring agencies, including the merger of DSA and VOSA and increased reliance on websites and email for delivering services.
“We want to hear what users think about the way these services are provided, so that we can make recommendations for improvement.”
The new Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will come into force from April this year and now is therefore the perfect time for this widespread assessment of whether the government’s key motoring organisations are delivering all they should.
Individuals keen to get involved can send a written submission to the inquiry outlining their attitudes and responses via the Commons Select Committee website.
