An exclusive 25th anniversary Discovery model is being launched by Jaguar Land Rover.

land-roverJaguar Land Rover has announced it will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the launch of its iconic Discovery model this year with an exclusive XXV Special Edition.

First launched in 1989, the Discovery 4×4 has become one of the best selling models for the marque over the last two and a half decades and has become synonymous with the brand.

It offers extreme versatility for the motorist, as well as a spacious interior and levels of comfort not found elsewhere. All this has combined to make the Discovery a major player in the SUV market and to mark this landmark anniversary, the firm is releasing a special model that will be available to UK consumers in the coming months.

Features of the XXV Special Edition include Windsor leather interior upholstery, twist pile carpet mats and a leather-wrapped wooden steering wheel, in addition to silver full-length roof rails, body-coloured handles and a stainless steel bumper accessory tread plate.

Phil Popham, group marketing director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Since its inception, the Land Rover Discovery has been pivotal to the success of the brand and has now become an iconic design in its own right.

“Discovery has led the way in terms of innovation, featuring technologies such as Terrain Response, which made off-roading much more accessible. The Discovery XXV Special Edition is the ultimate in sophisticated versatility and a fitting tribute to the legendary status of this iconic Land Rover.”

Almost 1.1 million Discovery models have been produced at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull manufacturing plant in the West Midlands since its 1989 launch; with the one millionth Discovery taking part in a 50-day, 8,000 mile adventure across Europe and central Asia in 2012 to raise more than £1 million for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The backbone of many an expedition into some of the harshest climates on the planet, the Discovery has been utilised by such famous names as Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Ray Mears, Monty Halls and polar explorer Ben Saunders.
