Peugeot's new 208 vehicle has been crowned the Best Small Car of 2014 at the Fleet News Awards in London.

The model's efficient engines and low running costs helped it achieve the title, according to Fleet News' editor.

Stephen Briers commented: "Peugeot has made massive inroads into fleet with the 208 thanks to its highly efficient petrol and diesel engines and competitive running costs."

He went on to say that the vehicle is of excellent quality and has strong residual values, appealing to a broad range of drivers as a result of its stylish appearance.

Launched in 2012, the Peugeot 208 was described by Martin Gurney, director of Peugeot Fleet & Used Vehicles, as a vehicle that delivers on numerous levels, combining top performance with economy, impressively low CO2 ratings and easy-to-use interior controls.

Ford's Fiesta was the runner-up for the award, being highly commended by judges on the Fleet News panel.
