Chief executive of the Road Haulage Association Richard Burnett has called upon the government to offer far greater clarification on the impact to the nation's logistics sector from last week's decision to leave the EU.

In a close fought campaign to Leave or Remain within the EU, the public voted by a 52 to 48 per cent margin to pull out of the bloc and this has led to several days of increasing uncertainty for the nation as a whole.

As a result, the RHA is now calling for strong leadership from the government – and for those who campaigned to leave the EU in particular – and a much clearer picture regarding what the future holds for the haulage industry.

Mr Burnett stated: "We need clear, demonstrative leadership – and quickly – from government as well as skilful negotiation to stabilise the economy and address the concerns of the public in general and our members in particular. The impact for us as a key industry provider could be considerable."

Members of the UK haulage sector are now being asked to provide details of their specific concerns to the RHA and these issues will then be passed on to the government for clarification in the days ahead.

It is a fluid and dynamic situation that the nation now finds itself in, but positive steps to address uncertainty should be the hallmark of a strong and stable government and this is something the RHA hopes to see happen in the very near future.
